Dionis Ortiz
Relationships between pattern, physical movement, labor, and memory are at the nexus of my conceptual process and are manifested in collage, painting, and printmaking. I explore making wood grain textile patterns with acrylic paint, silk-screen, and collagraph on paper and de-construct it into abstract collages.

Artist Statement
Relationships between pattern, physical movement, labor, and memory are at the nexus of my conceptual process and are manifested in collage, painting, and printmaking. I explore making wood grain textile patterns with acrylic paint, silk-screen, and collagraph on paper and de-construct it into abstract collages. The ersatz yet regal qualities of wood address the aspirational drive of new immigrants while variegated colors of wood reflect the nuances of skin colors within my family and community. The loci for this investigation is centered around my dual identity as a New Yorker from Harlem and as a person of Dominican descent.
